PAST

Arklow United Football Club was founded in 1978 by John Redmond, Josie Greene and Denis Kavanagh.

In its first season the Arklow United senior men’s team, under the management of John Redmond, won the WDFL First Division league title, winning all their matches and also never conceding a goal throughout the remarkable campaign. The squad consisted of: Sean Louth, Dick Bury, PJ Kenny, Felix Kavanagh, Josie Greene, Martin Kenny, Kevin Walsh, Eddie Kavanagh, Peter Lynch, Kevin Lynch, Pat Corr, Denis Kavanagh, A. Carey, Patrick Dunne, Robert Mangan, John McDonald and Michael Corr.

PRESENT

Arklow United Football Club has grown since the 1970’s and is now one of the fastest growing soccer clubs in County Wicklow, now catering for more than 250 members. Arklow United currently has two Senior Men’s teams, one Ladies team, and eight Schoolboy/Girl teams playing soccer in leagues in Wicklow and Wexford. Arklow United Football Club also has a fledging Soccer Academy, “The Nippers”, and over 60 girls registered in our successful Soccer Sisters programme.

FERNDALE PARK

Arklow United’s home ground is Ferndale Park and is considered to be one of the finest grounds in the Wicklow League, thanks to the commitment and hardwork of our committees (past and present), and our grounds staff. Ferndale Park has undergone a major regeneration process as part of the Club’s continual improvement in its training and playing facilities. This summer we saw the completion of a new state-of-the-art all-weather pitch and this has been embraced met with great excitement by all the members of the Club.

GLASGOW CELTIC

Our exciting link with Glasgow Celtic Football Clubhas given our Club exclusive access to Glasgow Celtic’s Academy and Development coaches in providing coach and player education. Glasgow Celtic has and continues to provide summer camps, match day experiences and residential camps for all of our players. Our relationship with Glasgow Celtic continues to grow with each season and there are many more exciting programmes planned for the seasons ahead.

Arklow United Football Club sis dedicated to revitalising the grassroots of the game by constructing modern soccer facilities and developing soccer as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in our communities.
